Ninersnation.com (Bengals VS 49ers Week 14)
Two low seeds made the Divisional Round unexpectedly, then they needed to defeat the 1st Seeds.
Sounds like a fairy tale, right?
CORRECT! Both the Cincinnati Bengals and the San Francisco 49ers are now heading to the AFC and NFC Championships respectfully after defeating both 1st seeds in the Tennessee Titans and the Green Bay Packers.
Both used the special teams magic to good use and they both won on last-second field goals (FG). In this article we'll talk about the most underappreciated player on the team, the Kicker (plus the special teams):
Bengals Rookie Kicker Evan McPherson called game even before stepping onto the field in a quote that he said on the sidelines, "Looks like we're going to the AFC championship." and it looks like he's got ice in his veins. Not only that McPherson was 4/4 on Field Goals throughout the entire game.
Now we'll move to the 49ers, 1 Blocked FG, 1 Blocked Punt, 1 Touchdown off said Blocked Punt, and a game-winning field goal in the snowy wonderland that is called Green Bay. Now that might sound like a fairytale as the 49ers came back to win in the last seconds of the game. "As Good As Gould" Robbie Gould sealed the win with a last-second field goal in 0 degrees Fahrenheit (-17 Celsius), and I think everyone agrees that his veins were as cold as the weather outside.
In conclusion, if you don't have the magic of special teams (looking at you Packers fans), YOU LOSE!
