What happened to Hull City

What in this world happened to Hull City

Since Hull City were relegated in 2017 everyone (including me) thought they would be back up in the Premier League in no time. After these 3 years we can all see that's far from the truth as they were relegated to League One.

2017 and 2018

Following relegation from the Premier League in 2017 Marco Silva resigned as head coach. Next, the club appointed Leonid Slutsky as the new head coach. However, after a poor streak of results he left by mutual consent in December 2017. Slutsky was replaced by former Southampton boss Nigel Adkins who led the team to avoid relegation and finish18th in the Championship.

2019 and 2020

The following season, despite being in the relegation zone after 19 games, an upturn in form saw Hull finish 13th in the Championship. However, Adkins at the end of the season rejected a new contact and then resigned. In June 2019, Grant McCann was appointed as the new head coach.

In January 2020 Hull City owner Assem Allam decided to cash in on his two biggest assets:

Kamil Grosicki ---> West Brom for £900,000

Jarrod Bowen ---> West Ham for £18,000,000

Both players were sold right before the 2020 January window slammed shut (on Jan 31st). In a season delayed due to COVID-19, Hull started well but lost 16 of their last 20 games, a losing streak that included an 8–0 loss at Wigan. Since Hull played horribly, they have been again relegated to League One (July 2020).

Conclusion

In conclusion I think Hull City will be back to the Championship next year and be a mid-table Championship team until 2025. After that, I think they will win in the play-offs and be promoted to the Premier League just to be a bottom table team coming in 16th place in 2026 and 14th place in 2027. (You can change that by playing Football Manager 2020 or 2021 as Hull City Manager).
